Missions and Goals

The Industrial Ecology Lab was established in 2005 by Dr. Sangwon Suh. Our mission is to provide cutting-edge research and training in the field of industrial ecology through cross-disciplinary and quantitative analyses.

Our goals are:

• Diseminating the concept of industrial ecology and life-cycle thinking;
• Providing solution-driven research in industrial ecology through innovations and systems thinking;
• Advancing our understandings on human-environment interactions;
• Supporting local, regional, and national environmental and natural resources policy with quantitative systems analysis;
• Training students and researchers in an inter-disciplinary environment with world-class research programs.

Do you know that...

The term, Industrial Ecosystem was coined by Robert Frosch and Nicholas Gallopoulos with their pioneering work entitled "Strategies for Manufacturing" appeared in Scientific American in 1989.
